Protecting Our Island

On Tuesday, November 3, 2020 residents of the Village of Key Biscayne had the opportunity to vote on the VKB Resilience General Obligation Bond Referendum (G.O. Bond).

From the 6,127 votes cast, 56.5% of residents voted in favor of the G.O. Bond. The funds from these bonds (up to $100M) will be utilized by the Village for a variety of resilience projects that will work together to protect our natural assets and upgrade our infrastructure. Building a resilient future for the Village of Key Biscayne will strengthen our Island Paradise from current and future climate-related threats.

Resilience is protecting something you love; our Island Paradise!

We all love Key Biscayne; that is why we choose, as residents, to call this Island Paradise “home.”  It is our duty to protect that home against the ever-increasing challenges brought by climate change and adverse weather events.

Resilience is being proactive, not reactive.

Resilience is protecting our island proactively.  It means providing the opportunity for every person in our community to bounce back after large-scale flooding events, hurricanes, or other challenging conditions, and to not only survive, but thrive in the face of the present and worsening threat of sea level rise.

Resilience is our responsibility.

We have a responsibility to protect the Village of Key Biscayne’s beaches, infrastructure, and quality of life for the residents of tomorrow.  Regardless of the funding source, implementing systemic changes to intricate infrastructure systems takes time. The sooner we start, the sooner we will, as a community, see the benefits of these changes!

This website portal will provide the community with detailed information to help voters understand the bond(s) financing question, process, and associated projects. As part of the Village’s public awareness initiative, more information will continue to be posted throughout the life cycle of the education campaign as it becomes available.

We encourage you to check back often, as new content and announcements will be added regularly.
